Oil Seal
This oil seal retains lubricant in a transmission, axle, or hydraulic housing while excluding contamination from the rotating shaft interface. Service techs replace oil seals during overhauls or when external leakage at the shaft indicates lip wear. A leaking oil seal also signals possible upstream issues like contaminated fluid or vent blockage that pressurizes the case.
