Anchor Key
This anchor key is a small machined keystock used to retain a gear, pulley, or hub on a shaft against rotation, anchored into a keyway in both the shaft and the mating component. Service techs replace anchor keys during overhauls when shear damage, wear, or removal damage prevents reliable reuse. A failed anchor key causes the gear or pulley to spin on the shaft and damage both components.
