Freeze Plug
This freeze plug, also called a core plug, seals a casting passage in the engine block or cylinder head against coolant leakage. Mechanics replace freeze plugs when corrosion thins the cup wall, when leakage indicates the original has failed, or during a full rebuild as preventive maintenance. A blown freeze plug from frozen coolant is a common cause of catastrophic coolant loss. Sold as an aftermarket replacement, contact us to verify the correct diameter and depth against your engine casting before ordering, since freeze plugs in similar nominal sizes vary in actual outer diameter, and an undersized plug will not press into the bore correctly.
