Needle Bearing
This needle bearing supports a rotating shaft or oscillating pin in a confined space where a full ball or roller bearing will not fit, common in transmission countershafts, pilot bores, and accessory drives. Mechanics replace needle bearings when the housing shows brinelling, the rollers feel rough, or play exceeds spec. Catching needle bearing wear early prevents secondary damage to the shaft journal.
