This spring is an aftermarket replacement valve spring used in cylinder head reassembly to close the valve and maintain seat pressure throughout the rpm range. Engine rebuilders replace springs during head service when free length, squareness, or test pressure has fallen out of spec, which is common on engines with long service hours. Reusing weak springs causes valve float and premature seat wear.
